The Earth would keep spinning, as it does, but we would no longer move with it instead we would move in a straight line, upwards. If the Earth’s gravity did just suddenly disappear we would no longer have a force keeping us on the ground. What would happen if gravity suddenly stopped? Down is therefore towards the earth’s center and up is away from the earth’s center when close to the earth. If you are in space and the earth is the nearest astronomical object, you fall towards earth. Since there is gravity everywhere in space, there is also an up and down everywhere in space. If you move far enough away from our sun, it become just another star. There are many comments and an answer telling you why you can’t and, as far as they go, they are correct. Yes, it is possible to be essentially standing still in relationship to the Sun. Near the surface of the Earth (sea level), gravity decreases with height such that linear extrapolation would give zero gravity at a height of one half of the Earth’s radius – (9.8 m In other words, no one would last long if the planet didn’t have gravity. Without an atmosphere, any living thing would die immediately and anything liquid would boil away into space. Without gravity, the air in the atmosphere has no reason to hang around, and it would immediately leap into space. As the spacecraft orbits, it is actually falling, though it never reaches the ground. In fact, gravity is what holds it in orbit-without gravity, the spacecraft would fly off in a straight path. So, is there Gravity in Orbit? A spacecraft in orbit is not beyond the reach of Earth’s gravity.
